BKTHERULA Takes Over an Arcade in Her Video “Not Wock”

Rising Atlanta rapper, BKTHERULA (whose real name is Brooklyn Rodriguez), has been making waves in the southern rap scene for nearly a couple of years at this point. In 2020, we saw the release of her first two mix-tapes, Nirvana and Love Santana, then on New Year’s Eve of the same year, she featured on the lineup of the Cyberworld virtual concert event. She has currently been on a streak of dropping singles with no upcoming album announced yet. On July 30th, she dropped the music video for the song “Not Wock” on her official YouTube channel, and the video has garnered over 100,000 views so far. The single was released the same day and distributed through Warner Records.

In the beginning of the video, a retro custom arcade load screen with an animated version of BK appearing onscreen. After the “new game” option is selected, we see BKTHERULA and few members of her entourage enter an arcade. We can see them performing with microphones in the arcade alleyways. The group can also be seen playing the machines inside the arcade, and sitting on top of the arcade tables and cabinets. BKTHERULA keeps the song short and sweet at the runtime is under 2 minutes. However, she still manages to please us with her brutal one liners and low-octave flow over a simple trap beat with minimalist synth progressions. Let us know what you think of the video below!
