Butch Dawson Goes Monochrome In His “HUMMER” Video

Butch Dawson is a Baltimore-based rapper who represents the CMPND artist collective. His real name is Jujuan Allen, and he was born on March 31, 1993. He has been finding his sound and making waves in the underground since the release of his breakout mix-tape, “Ollieworld.” Soon after that, he performed as an opening act during JPEGMafia’s 2019 North American Tour and was featured on Red Bull’s artist spotlight series called “Flat Out.” These opportunities lead us to his newest single, titled “HUMMER.” The video premiered on his official YouTube channel on May 7th, 2021, while the single was released as his Asylum Records debut two days prior.

Butch’s visual effort was self directed, with the help of ThugMom. The black and white scenes combined with Butch’s dark persona makes the video a quite grim experience. The video starts with a raw sung introduction as Butch is beaten in an open field while in captivity. Once the beat switches, we then see Butch rapping alongside his affiliates in front of a Hummer limousine . Most of second half of the video takes place under a highway overpass. Another shot in the video gives us a glimpse into Butch’s private Hummer party with several liquor bottles and wine glasses.

One of the most memorable parts of this music video would be Butch crouching while wearing a White Castle beanie (this is a fashion statement we don’t see often). We are expecting to see this song appear on Butch’s forthcoming EP, called “Stardust.” Is this video a 10/10? We’ll take the screencapped signholders’ word for it!
