Watch the fierce female’s new music video and get ready for her approaching album, Las Ruinas.

“Mason Margiela all over over my blazer / treat her like sororities, we’re gonna haze her. When I drink tequila I don’t need a chaser. That nigga trippin he think ima chase ’em.” – Rico Nasty on “Skullflower”

Attention. Ready or not, here comes Rico Nasty. Back on June 20th, the Maryland native took to Twitter to announce that her forthcoming album Las Ruinas is scheduled to be released on July 22nd. It’s clear from her most recent outputs that the Sugar Trap pioneer is evolving in every aspect; from her sound, to her fashion, to her outlook on the type of music she’s making.

We loved her debut project, Nightmare Vacation (2020), which received more than positive reviews and praise. It’s also transparent that with this new album, the emcee aims to break barriers like never before, describing it as her “most vulnerable and experimental body of work yet.”

Three tracks have already been unveiled: “Vaderz” (feat. Bkatharuler), “Intrusive”, and the title track of a brief 2-pack, “Black Punk”; all coupled with a set of new groundbreaking visuals.

The newest song, “Skullflower” finds Rico Nasty braggadociously rapping over a dance-beat where, experimentally, her voice is pitched up. There’s an evident juxtaposition between the light-hearted, bubbly bop of the instrumental and Rico’s flaunt-heavy lyricism. The music video, shot by Marco Alexander, helps to appropriately convey this contrast in emotional styles, as Rico sports a black and white maid’s outfit while frolicking through an endless field of sunflowers.

The official “Skullflower” music video was filmed by Marco Alexander on location in Germany.

In other Rico Nasty news, Kehlani recently announced that the two stars will be heading out on the international Blue Water Road Trip Tour together along with Destin Conrad. We recently covered the singer/songwriter’s music video for “everything” (track #12 on BWR).

The Blue Water Road Trip tour begins in Portsmouth, Virginia on the 29th.
