The rapper is accompanied by a bunch of baddies in his newest self-directed video.

At the beginning of the year Gunna released DS4EVER (DRIP SEASON 4EVER). His awaited compilation contained additional appearances from Young Thug, Future, Drake, Kodak Black, Chloe Bailey, Lil Baby, G Herbo, Nechie, Chris Brown, and Young Bleu. In the months following, “pushin P” had the nation in a chokehold, a certified hit featuring Young Thug and Future. Shortly after, the rapper attended the Met Gala for the first time, then him and Thug were highlighted together for their accomplishments in Billboard Magazine. When it seemed like the two were on top of the world-Young Thug a label CEO with Gunna as his headlining act-disaster struck the whole organization.

Currently, by way of the state attorney of Georgia, Gunna is charged with one count of conspiracy to violate the RICO Act (Racketeered Influenced and Corrupt Organizations). Surrendering himself to authorities May 11th, his request for bond was denied. Gunna will reportedly face trial alongside label-head Young Thug in January 2023 as a part of a 56-count indictment that claims that Young Stoner Life Records is a “criminal street gang”. Both pleaded guilty to all charges against them. Last week on Tuesday, Gunna shared an open letter from jail disaffirming the charges, limning them as an attack on Black music and artists. What is ultimately wild is that their art is being used against them by prosecutors in court, further confirming the fact that the judicial system is inherently racist and unjust. The creation of music – like the creation of any other art form – is a form of expression, and a lot of rappers speak in metaphors and similes most of the time; making it something that should never be used in criminal cases. It’s a shame that they’re using lyrics from Young Thug’s So Much Fun album to somehow affirm their accusations.

Gunna performed “Banking On Me” on Saturday Night Live (SNL Live) two months ago, also performing “pushin P” with Future.
A day after his open letter was released, the visuals for “Banking On Me” came out. Directed by the rapper himself, it contains scenes of the drip god alongside some of the most beautiful women . It also conveys Gunna’s propensity for flavors, aromatically. Kudos to him for his direction because these scenes are put together with a lot of grace, care, and elegance.
