Isn’t it funny how times change? A hip-hop newcomer, Rocco, has been making his presence known online, since his previous song, “Honest”, went viral on TikTok, garnering over 20,000 views in only 24 hours. More recently, he was interviewed by the Rhode Island podcast, Artist Republik. His real name is Nate Dirocco, and he is from Downingtown, Pennsylvania. He has now decided take the introspective route with his newest offering, “Times Changed,” which was officially released on June 2nd, under the label, Backend Music.
Throughout the song, we can hear Rocco speaking about how everybody “wants a piece (of him), ever since he got a little buzz.” With his fanbase growing in size by the hour, we can agree that Rocco “worked his ass off, just to get where he’s at.” He also previewed the song on his official Instagram account with a recent promotional visualizer clip. In the video, he appears to be at the poolside of a nearby residence. He can be seen performing the song with utmost confidence while holding a bottle of Absolut Vodka.
Rocco’s vocal delivery and singing voice has been often compared to the likes of Justin Bieber and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie. On the song, his vocals soar over a mid-tempo instrumental that includes a lush string chord progression, trap-styled 808 drums, a ghostly whistle-like vocal riff, and some detuned synths that arrive in the chorus section. The cover art for this single features a hand drawn hourglass with several hearts inside of it. The hearts in the picture seems to be falling to the bottom of the hourglass then leaking out of the hourglass. The cover is successful in setting the tone for the subject matter of Rocco’s verses.
