Davey Legend, the Redding, CA based artist/producer/engineer just released one of the lead singles, “Sleeve” for his upcoming project “Heartbreak Hotel”. Davey is a well rounded musician, producing & mixing mostly all of his songs is something that has gained him a lot of traction and a big advantage.
He’s taken a very intimate approach to promoting this song, handwriting letters & delivering to every person who pre saved it. He is actually on Omegle playing the song with his acoustic guitar for random people as I’m writing this.
In the song, Davey talks about his struggles with love and the emotional stress that comes with giving his all. One line that stands out to me & reinforces the theme is “As for my heart it’s f***ing breaking, I wore it on my sleeve and now it’s killing me”.
I can feel the emotion behind the lyrics & the hyper, EDM influenced, pop production. The song has a high energy, yet intimate & genuine feel. I struggle to put the song in any specific genre, yet it feels very familiar and relatable. With a unique combination of different styles, this song reminds me a lot of the hyperpop gods such as glaive, ericdoa & aldn. And I know that’s where Davey has gained a lot of inspiration from recently.
I’m excited to see what this year has in store for Davey, after working with him for close to a year, I’ve seen a lot of growth in him not only as an artist but as a person. If you’ve read this far, you are a real one & I hope you take the time out of your day to check out the song!
