Before this month comes to an end, I want to highlight 10 of my favorite drops so far in 2022. To me, this year has started off pretty strong with a few singles and a couple projects that have made notable impressions in my library.
Zara Bash is a one-of-a-kind type of artist who can do it all: rap, write, sing, and produce, and more. His new record is a pleasurable, addicting tune that sounds like a late night cruise through the city. Zara is heard singing, then rapping, then back to singing to end the brief single.
A soulful offering from the kid with the cyclops shades that is sure to leave an earworm. The track serves as a teaser for more “slayRNB” which is soon to come.
“Work Release” is track 08 off of the ‘Reboot’ by multitalented VA DJ/rapper/producer SHADED ZU (aka Fake Uzumi). It features a verse from burgeoning female MC Lex Lucent.
“Pour that shit up man.” With one of the most distinct and compelling voices on the east coast, Suffolk, VA native Ty Safari is back, dropping off an enticingly cool record that’ll earn multiple plays in a row.
Another product of Suffolk, Virginia, CMRNPRKR tackles growth on his newest single. The impactful ballad comes after a small hiatus from creating music, with a refined emphasis on transparency and elevation.
A deeply relfective record, highlighting Jesse Boone’s thoughts on his legacy and purpose. The music video is directed by Aaron Dee and was shot in Portsmouth, VA (Jesse’s hometown).
“Return Of The Fish” is track 08 off of the ‘Best After Percy’ album. The Virginia Beach native is known for his street rhymes and hard-hitting production.
