Roanoke’s Drew Famous doesn’t play with his craft and operates in a lane of his own. A rapper’s rapper, and a prideful penman. He bursted on the scene in 2015 with the mixtape Immature Outburst: a dark, serious, and rebellious debut released via DatPiff Mixtapes. Since then, his sound has stretched into one that is distinct, and in my opinion, he is a very special artist. This month he unleashed “Aaahhh!!!” the first off of HEAD HIGH, his new album set to be released on September 27th. “Aaahhh!!!” has strong bounce with 808s and an airy snare courtesy of production by fluent collaborator Levi Hinson and on the hook and verses, Drew details how he starts his days. I got a chance to see the song performed recently at the sold out Something On The Water show in Richmond, Virginia at the beginning of the month. Drew Famous did not disappoint, making his presence felt while getting the crowd engaged to sing with him; imagine a packed venue screaming “AAAHHH!!!” at the top of their lungs. The experience was magical and electric.
