Comparing his recording process to that of a “painter or someone who draws,” he seldom brings lyrics to the booth with him. Southern California-based, almost nomadic Lil Seltrah has moved around his entire life.
David: Can you tell me a little bit about your hometown?
Seltrah: “I don’t have a hometown. Somewhat of a gypsy, I’ve been moving frequently my entire life. But if there is one place I’ve always come back to its Southern California.”
Raising up from the dirt, he tells me that he came from being homeless for over 10 years, “like outside-type homeless.” Constantly grinding his way through, he found ways to make ends meet and he now has been off the streets for over 3 years.
“I just been grinding none stop like I’m addicted to it. Like my life depends on it. Because it does.”
When I listen to Seltrah’s music, what strikes me as most compelling is the passion that you hear behind his lyrics. Inspired the most by the “legends that were too good/great to co-exist on this planet with us.” Citing Kurt Cobain, Steve Irwin, Tupac, Lil Peep, XXX Tentacion, and Dimebag Darrell, to name a few, as people from whom he draws inspiration, the passion that he carries in his words is incredible.
David: How did you get into making music?
Seltrah: “When the struggle hit a hobby turned into a means to an end. I just jammed and experimented with hardcore, deathcore, dubstep, hophop for many years. And when life hit I started using my skills to make a few bucks to eat here and there. Now I’m 100% self employed and pay bills using the skills ive developed simply trying to survive.”
With plans of further solidifying his spot in the underground of hip-hop, he looks forward to releasing new music before the year is out. Growing and changing with each release as he matures as an artist, this upcoming project, is sure to be his best put together tape yet.
David: Any future projects coming out soon? Tell me about the new album that is coming out –
Seltrah: “Yes I have a release called “The Toxic Mixtape” dropping sometime soon before the end of the year.
What can your listeners expect going into it? I got some big features like ITSOKTOCRY and YTB Castro going on the tape. As well as some new songs, and some re-booted (Re recorded) songs.
