Sækyi (pronounced “sah – key”) is a multifaceted alternative hip-hop artist who blends his singing and rapping abilities together to create music to exist within the world he creates for them, visually. His releases are always uniquely captivating and timeless. Back in 2022, he made a significant impact with his Angels Don’t Call Me – EP. This project consisted of 9 songs, and conceptually told the story of one yearning for love that has been lost. Since then, he’s released five singles, along with another EP that came out in November of last year, called LOVE IS GRIEF IN SUSPENDED ANIMATION.
Now, in 2025, it seems like the Woodbridge, Virginia native of Ghanaian heritage is gearing up to release a new full length project. This week, came a new single named “Muni Long”. Upon my first listen, the guitar strums paired with Sækyi’s vocals made me think of how Altanta’s Kenny Mason effortlessly exists between hip-hop/rap and hard/soft rock. Nonetheless, once the beat drops on “Muni Long”, the ride is on. Lyrically, Sækyi expresses the feelings of someone who is one year removed from a taxing relationship and now watching their ex-lover move on and do better. Most of us have been there: our former partner is doing better for themselves, and the majority of the time we act like we don’t care at all. “I don’t care, we ain’t spoke in like a year. I been home. I been spending time alone, now I’m grown. Muni (money) long. You was my twin, it was set in stone. Where you go? Where you at?” The title of the song and how he uses it is also a clever way to give a nod or pay homage to the 2023 hit song “Made For Me” by singer/songwriter Muni Long.

Keep your eyes and ears open for more of Sækyi this year. Also, stay attentive to what else comes out of his home state of Virginia.
