Shannon “SHANN” Benton was born and raised in the musically rich state of Virginia. Since the age of five, she knew that being an artist was her destiny. SHANN credits her mother for being her biggest supporter, and also who passed down her musical gifts. Her first single came in 2020, and was followed up by another in 2021. Over the past three years, the Hampton, VA-bred songstress has committed to developing her artistry, while dropping moment-making singles that have commanded attention with every output. 2022 was a big year for her with tracks “Same Page” and the hip-moving hit “Without Trying.” Last year SHANN shared a brief but pleasurable 3-pack with listeners, called “Coldwithoutu”.
In 2024, SHANN made her first mark in February with “Daydreaming Again”: a record produced by Sunsensei that is a love song one can dance to, and that marks the continuation of her artistic evolution. Little did we know, that would only be an appetizer to her summer smash, “SHAKE.”
“SHAKE” is as infectious as a record can get. It’s an upbeat love song, but overall the songwriter expresses her affection for the club’s atmosphere. A crowd’s collective movement to different rhythms, mixed with the control a DJ commands from their booth. Back in November of 2023, SHANN personally filmed a vlog documenting the first day that she laid the demo down. This shows fans, listeners, and supporters of her music just how her recording process is, and also what she usually does beforehand and afterward.
