Twenty four year old Denver artist Tre O’Neal has recently shifted his focus from primarily school and basketball to music which, in my opinion, was the correct choice. In just nine short months he has gone from his first song to fully captivating his audience with a smooth and subtle R&B vibe that will have you changing your apple music playlist to repeat. With noticeable inspiration from Usher, Eric Bellinger and Music Soulchild, Tre is a brings a nice new breeze with songs like Old School Chevy and Lost In My Ways. When I sat down with Tre, I asked him to tell me a little bit about who he is and where he comes from, as well as why he thinks new listeners would be into his persona and sound, this is what he had to say.
TRE: “Like I said before, my main focus up until just recently has always been school and basketball. Everyone who knew me/of me associated my name with those 2 things. A couple people here and there knew I could sing a little bit, but I’m sure no one including myself thought that at some point this is what I’d be doing with my life. As far as why people should look into me I think they should check out my music because I feel like I bring a different sound and style to not only R&B, but music as a whole. Also because from my first ever released project back in December of 2017, to the singles in between, and now my most recent project, the growth is very noticeable. I’ve came a long way and my listeners can attest to that.”
In fact I can attest to that, you can see huge growth in a short period of time which is something that makes Tre such an exciting artist to follow. Streaming from the work ethic he picked up from basketball and school you can tell when he gets an idea in his head he works for it. Luckily for Tre, the process of making music isn’t too hard for him. Writing poems to his mother every year on her birthday, Tre began breaking into his creative side from a young age and he is proud of the direction things are currently going. After recently releasing a five track EP titled No Brakes, I don’t see Tre slowing down any time soon. Telling us to keep an eye out for a couple singles coming in the following months, Tre hinted at something special he has planned but wouldn’t give up any more information on it. Lets just say I am excited to see what happens with the emerging artist in following months.
